A rainbow is a colourful arch that appears in the sky after rain. Appearance of a rainbow is actually a phenomenon attached to light. Sunlight or white light rays are actually a mixture of colours (VIBGYOR: violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red). We have often observed an array of colours on the surface of a soap bubble. When white light passes through a glass prism, it breaks into seven colours, called the spectrum. A rainbow is a huge spectrum of colours appearing mostly during a rainfall, when rainfall is accompanied with sunlight. Rainbow is best observed when we stand in between the Sun and the rainfall. Sunlight should come from our behind. Rainbows are often observed early in the morning or during late afternoons.
