What is a Sundial?

A sundial is a type of an ancient clock that indicates the day timing by the position of the shadow of a particular object exposed to sunlight. The position of the shadow changes with the movement of the Sun in the sky. Hence, the passage of time is recorded with respect to the position of the Sun in the sky. The first recording device was made in 3500 BCE. This device had a vertical stick placed on the ground and the shadow of the stick cast on ground indicated the time.
