What is Green Revolution?

Green Revolution was a movement that began in the 1960’s to boost the food supply of the world using high-yielding seeds, hybrid cereals and modern agricultural techniques along with better management. It was highly successful in India and Mexico. The need for such a movement rose due to worldwide occurrences of famine and drought. The Green Revolution made India a self-sufficient, leading agricultural nation (from a food- deficient nation). Successful agricultural experiments in many developing nations, as in India, proved a boon to the people. Norman Ernest Borlaug helped lay major techniques related to agricultural technology. He is known as the ‘Father of Green Revolution’.
