Early next week I am going to New Zealand with my parents. I am incredibly excited about the trip and I packed my suitcase several days ago. I keep checking nervously to make sure that I have got everything.
I do not have to worry about my tickets since my dad is in charge of those. However, I thought that I should better check my passport once again. I was sure it was safe because my friend Jolly and I had been laughing at the dreadful photograph in it just the previous day.
We were in my bedroom at the time and I definitely remembered putting my passport on my bedside table. However, it was not there. Where could it be? I simply had to find it!
I looked under the bed. I pulled the bed out from the wall in order to look behind it. I took the blanket off my bed. I looked under the pillows. I took the sheets off my bed and looked under the mattress. There was no sign of my passport.
I took all the things out of my suitcase. I searched through the clothes in my wardrobe. I rummaged through the contents of all my drawers. I looked in all the books in my bookcase. The passport was nowhere to be seen.
Where could it be? I was beginning to panic. Then I remembered that there had been a library book lying beside my passport on the bedside table. I had taken it back to the library just a couple of hours ago. Could my passport be in the book?
I ran down to the library. The librarian had not yet put the book away. It was still on the counter. I opened it with trembling fingers.
There was my passport! I nearly burst into tears with sheer relief.
