My uncle Andy is spending a few days with us. He and my father are both keen anglers and last Saturday they decided to go on a fishing trip to a nearby lake.
Usually on Saturday we all take part in some family activity and Dad asked us if we would all like to go on the fishing trip. My mother and my sister Meg declined the invitation, saying that they found fishing boring and that they would much prefer to go shopping.
I went because I have always wanted to try my hand at angling. When we set off it was drizzling. However, Dad said that dull, rainy days are often better for catching fish than clear, sunny days .We put all the fishing tackle in the boot of the car. Dad and Uncle Andy both have very expensive fishing rods, but mine is an old one that Dad had when he was a boy.
When we arrived at the lake we tried fishing from the bank, but we had no luck. We were getting a bit despondent. Uncle Andy suggested that we should hire a boat and take it out on the lake. Dad and Uncle Andy rowed out in to the middle of the lake and we set up our rods.
Then suddenly I felt something tug on my fishing line. Whatever was on the other end of the line pulled and pulled? I could hardly hold on my rod! Finally, Dad threw his net into the water. When he pulled it out of the water I saw to my amazement that it contained a huge fish!
I could not believe it. I felt so proud when Mum cooked the fish for dinner that night. I cannot wait to go fishing again!
