Break Dancing is an athletic style of street dance. It started in the South Bronx of New York in the mid-1970’s and then moved west to Los Angeles. This dance-form when street gangs used Break Dancing as a way to battle without fist-fighting or using weapons. It later evolved as part of the hip-hop movement. There are four typical movements applied in Break Dancing. Those include freezes, power moves, downrock and toprock. The musical style used in Break Dancing includes the funk music, hip-hop and break beats. A dancer of this dance is called a b-boy, b-girl, or breaker.
