White-crested Laughing Thrush

The Garrulax leucolophus (scientific name) or white-crested laughing thrush is a sociable bird native to the teak and bamboo forests from the foothills of the Himalayas to the Indo-China area. 6-8 inches in length, this bird has iridescent rust and white plumage, with the upper body, wings, back and tail all rust in colour. Only the head, neck and a crest-shape on its chest is white in colour. It also has a broad black mask covering its eyes. Its diet consists of fruits, nectar, seeds and also insects and lizards. An average clutch-size has 3-5 eggs laid in wide shallow nests, incubated for 15 days. These noisy birds often burst out into loud calls, which sound like laughter. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
