Sheikh Chilli is a very popular character in the Indian sub-continent, famous for his follies and simplicity. The incidents related to his life were quite funny. He was a simpleton and a daydreamer. He built castles in the air and established great businesses and empires in his imagination. And when his imaginary stories ended, he would find himself surrounded by people laughing at him. His stories being so laughable, people started calling fools and daydreamers as ‘Sheikh Chilli’. According to some stories, he was born in Baluchistan, in Pakistan. He used to work for the king of Jhajjar, in Haryana, India, and finally died in Kurukshetra. His tomb still exists in Kurukshetra, in Haryana. Sheikh Chilli was very different from Tenali Raman and Birbal, the other witty characters, popular among people. While those two were clever, Sheikh Chilli was quite a buffoon.
