Two women were fast friends. They were neighbours. Both were childless.
By the grace of God, one of them gave birth to a son, years later. They decided to bring up the child together and not to tell others who the real mother was.
That way, the childless woman did not feel bad and none could taunt her. The real mother wanted to protect her friend.
But one day, the other woman turned dishonest. She spoke, “This child is mine. Now I don’t want you to touch him. You are always making a mess of him.”
It shocked the real mother. She tried to snatch back her child.
A quarrel broke out between the two over the child.
Both were claiming to be the real mother. Each claimed the other one was impostor. The dispute was taken to the court.
The judge heard the case. The women pleaded their respective positions and the claims. It was difficult to say which one was the true mother.
At last, the judge got an idea to find out the truth.
He ordered the court sentry, “Saw this child into two and give one part to each of these women.”
One of the women stood silent. But the other one cried and begged, “No sir, no! Please don’t do that. Do not saw the child in two. Give the child to the other woman. She is the real mother. I am withdrawing my claim.”
The other woman smiled.
She thought she had won the case.
Meanwhile, the judge had found out who the real mother was.
He ordered the child to be given to the woman who had cried and withdrawn her claim. The other woman was sent to jail.
Moral : A real mother can’t ever see her child being harmed.
