Why do dolphins make so many sounds?

Dolphins have a unique quality of being able to create a large range of sounds that they use as their special communication system. They have a special body-part called the nasal air sacs that help them create these sounds. These sacs are located just behind their blowholes. They produce three different kinds of noises – whistles, burst-pulsed sounds and clicks. Each sound is used because it displays different emotions. They make sounds to interact socially, to communicate their emotions – like separation from peers, excitement, fear or even happiness. Dolphins are highly intelligent and their exchange closely resembles human conversations.
