Lizards have the special ability to regenerate or regrow their tails if they get cut off accidentally. Most lizards, however, can do it only a limited number of times. Tails of reptiles such as green iguanas and bearded dragons can also regrow. In case of accident or if the lizard drops its tail on purpose, as a defence mechanism, the tail separates from the lizard’s body along a natural fracture line. It continues to move for some time, which gives the lizard time to run off to safety while the predator is engrossed in watching the tail.
Why is it ok if a lizard’s tail gets cut off accidentally?
