Why is Milk White?

Milk gets its white colour because of the nutrients it’s made up of. Among the many proteins in milk, one such is known as casein, which is full of good-for-you calcium that helps keep your bones strong and your teeth healthy. Rich in calcium, casein helps contribute to the white colour of milk. In addition, the cream that is found in milk contains white-coloured fat. The more cream in milk, the more white it is. Low and non-fat milk appears more greyish rather than white because it contains less cream. Another reason milk looks white to the  naked eye is because some objects do not absorb very much light. Rather, these objects reflect light. For instance, red-coloured objects reflect only red light and absorb the other colours of light in the rainbow spectrum. The molecules that make up casein and cream reflect light. That’s why milk is white.
