Work Comes First

Work Comes First

It was a hot summer day; the sun was shining brightly. All animals were baffled and didn’t want to work. There was a mother hippo who had four children, and they were in sound sleep. The mother hippo went to them and tried to wake them up but they didn’t get up and said, “Mother, it’s too hot to work. But a perfect day to swim in the river and chase butterflies.” The mother hippo said, “You will have to work first, then you can play.” But all four didn’t obey her and went to swim. They had such a good time wallowing in the mud and splashing water that they forgot the time.

When the mother hippo arrived, she was very angry. “No pudding after supper for anyone!” she declared as punishment. Now the hippos felt sorry for not listening to her. Next morning, the four hippos left home early to do their work. Mrs. Hippo was happy and gave each of them a bowl of pudding. “It is never good to disobey the mother,” said all four enjoying their pudding.
