Writing the Epic

Krishna Dwaipayan was the child of Satyawati and sage Parashar. He had been sharp-witted since childhood. At the age of sixteen, he requested his mother to let him go for penance. But his mother was opposed to his idea. After being persuaded she relented. As he meditated in Badrinath, he came to be known as ‘Badrayan’.
The knowledge of the Vedas was on the wane at that time. Krishna collated the already obsolete knowledge of the Vedas. ‘Veda’ means ‘knowledge’ and ‘Vyasa’ means ‘Editor’ or ‘Compiler’. He compiled all the Vedas, Puranas and the Shastras and became famous as ‘Veda Vyasa’.
The great sage Veda Vyasa was witness to the proceedings taking place in Hastinapur. He decided to formulate the events related to the Kuru Dynasty. He was in search of a person who could pen down quickly what he dictated to him. For this, Lord Shiva suggested the name of Ganesha. In this way, the great epic ‘Mahabharata’ came into being thanks to Vyasa’s words and Ganesha’s pen.
