Xiphias are migratory fish with elongated, round bodies, long, flat bills, losing all teeth and scales by adulthood. They grow up to 3 metres long and weigh 650 kg. They are solitaryre fish, feeding at night, rising to surface in search of squid, crustaceans, mackerels and barracudas. They spawn in warm waters during spring and summer. Lifespan is 9 years.
