Yahya bin Khalid nurtured grudges against Abdullah bin Lalik for good reasons. Once, Haroon Al-Rashid made Abdullah ruler of Armenia. A noble man of Irak, who had lost everything, went to Abdullah with a forged letter of Yahya.
Abdullah suspected the letter to be forged and told the man that after sending the letter to Yahya, if it was confirmed that it was a forgery he would pay with two hundred blows and shaved head and if it was genuine, the man would be made a Governor of a state.
The letter was sent to Yahya for confirmation. Yahya thought that this was a situation which he could use to make good relations with Abdullah and wrote back a letter stating that the letter was indeed sent by him. When Abdullah read it, he was pleased and showered wealth on the man and sent him to Baghdad.
When Yahya met the man, he was so pleased that he was instrumental in restoring good relations with Abdullah, by means of a forged letter; he gave the man more wealth and made him rich.
