Yangon (Rangoon) was the former capital of Myanmar (Burma). It is now the capital of the Yangon region. This city is an eclectic mix of modern and ancient. There are many Pagodas in the city, the most famous of them being the Shwedagon Paya with its shimmering complex and golden pinnacle. These pagodas house many Buddhist relics of religious importance. The town boasts of a good selection of restaurants, bars and shops, street food vendors, open air markets, pavement bookshops, temples, mosques and churches which make it Myanmar’s richest cosmopolitan city.
