The yellow fin tuna has a very dark metallic blue body with a silvery belly having 20 vertical lines. The second dorsal fin, anal fin and tail are bright yellow. It travels in schools with similar sized fish, sometimes schooling with other tuna species. It feeds on crustaceans, squid and fish. Lifespan is 8 years.
