The yeti crab is a hairy white crabsensing its surroundings with its hair, as it lacks eyes. The arms are covered in bacteriathat live and grow in the hair. These bacteriaare a source of food for the crab which also feeds on mussels, shrimp and algae. Males prefer warmer waters and egg-carrying females and juveniles prefer the coldest waters.
