
Materials Required:
- 2 broomsticks
- Rope
Procedure:
- Ask 2 adults to stand several feet apart and give each of them a broomstick. Tie one end of a rope to one of the broomsticks.
- Weave the rope back and forth between the broom sticks several times.
- Tell the adults to try in order to pull the broomsticks apart. On the other hand, you easily move the 2 broomsticks together by pulling on the free end of the rope.

This set-up is called block and tackle. The force of your strength is increased each time the rope is looped around the broomsticks, and so you appear to be stronger than 2 adults! Block and tackle is used for lifting heavy items like machinery and pianos.
