Know Your Weaknesses

It is more important to know our weaknesses before our strengths. One’s greatest weakness is the lack of ability of recognizing their weaknesses. Many of us think that once we put our hands on our strengths and once we can figure out what makes us strong and powerful; we are then set to strongly and confidently face the world and pursue our social lives as well as our professional lives and careers. Yes, pinpointing our strengths is important and helps us to use them to move forward and improve ourselves. But if we are not aware of our weaknesses or we know them but ignore them, they might drag us down and we would end up with our weaknesses ‘weakening’ our strengths and turning them into negativity, a thing we want to avoid.
It is certainly a point of strength to be able to self-reflect and see what our faults are. In most interviews, one famous question is “what are your weaknesses and strengths?” You would think that, wouldn’t it be more logical that the interviewer should only be interested in the strengths of the candidate that can make them fit for the job? Now the employer doesn’t expect you to answer saying, “I don’t have any weaknesses,” and then to start listing down an endless number of skills and strengths. The employer expects you to talk about your weaknesses in a positive way and to show that you are not succumbing to them but that you are doing your best to overcome them. This shows that you are a human being who knows his/her character and is trying to create a better person out of yourself. What is better than a person who doesn’t await others to tell him/her their weakness but knows them already? It is as simple as that: Instead of wasting your time on judging others, use your time to judge yourself!
One more thing, never get conceited about your points of strength. That makes you forget that you are a human being and that human beings are not perfect. In other words, being conceited makes you forget that you also make mistakes and that you have some faults that need to be fixed. Call it a purification process or a self-reflection process or call it a self-improvement process, call it whatever but you have to look inside you and see what weaknesses you have and what needs to be fixed before it is too late. It’s like filtering your character every now and then, a healthy thing to do. Never think that having those weaknesses is something bad or terrible or shameful. On the contrary, they stand as evidence of our human imperfection, something very normal. So laugh at your weakness so that you can proceed in life and move forward. In other words, don’t look at your weaknesses as obstacles that will hinder your progress in life but turn them into positive points. And remember that knowing our faults and weaknesses is the first major step towards our strength and towards asserting our power.

Know you weaknessess before your strengths.

How to overcome
All people like to view themselves in a positive light. No one likes to be considered a failure or a lesser human being. But everyone has weaknesses. Most of the time people tend to ignore their weakness and focus on showcasing their positive attributes. There is nothing wrong with showing your positive attributes but you can’t ignore your weaknesses.
When people ignore the things that they are bad at, it tends to come back on them later in life. Let’s make an example of this situation. Some people are excellent writers. But when it comes to talking to people, in a face to face situation, they are a walking, talking disaster. Communication is a revered and necessary skill. One can never expect to get through life without the ability to communicate a point verbally. As human beings, our complex communication skills put us far beyond any other animal. Because human beings can communicate math, history, science, sociology and a wealth of other subjects many things never get lost. We can make improvements in our society rapidly through the communication of thoughts and principles. When we ignore a skill/weakness we deprive ourselves and one another of gains that can be made through our own individual improvement.
Overcoming a weakness is very much akin to getting in shape. You have to work at it to become stronger. If you aren’t good at something, make it a point to do what it takes to figure out how to improve your weakness. Go to a quality book shop. Look for books that contain subject matter that focus on your weakness. Seek out web pages and blogs of people who are experts in the field which you are trying to improve in. All in all though, the greatest way to improve your weakness is just to jump in and try what you are bad at. Practice it. You will become better. That’s only human nature. The more you work at it the better you will get at it.
Finally it is not enough to know your weaknesses but you also have to admit that you have those weaknesses. Do that sincerely and be honest with yourself and see the results yourself—A better self-improved person!’
