Magic Sand (Creative Chemistry Experiments)

You will need:

q 1-2 cups, of dry sand
q Silicone spray, or scotch
guard spray
q Broad flat dish
q Foil
q Water

Amaze your friends with your very own magic sand. Show everyone how the sand stays dry even when you pour it into water.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Firstly, cover your broad flat dish with foil or any other protective covering so that it may not get spoilt.
2. Pour the dry sand out onto the dish and shake it a little so that it may be even.
3. Take the scotch guard spray and evenly coat the sand by spraying it over the sand.
4. Let it dry. Wait for 5 minutes, then mix the sand with your hands and shake it
   up, so that a whole new layer of sand
   may come to the top.
5. Once again, spray scotch guard over
   the sand uniformly. And wait for it
   to dry.
6. Shake up the sand and repeat the
   process for another 5-6 times
   till you feel all the sand is
   coated with scotch guard.

RESULT

The result is your very own magic sand! The scotch guard coats the sand with a coating of silicone which is hydrophobic. As a result, when you take your sand and pour it into the water, it does not mix but instead stays separate.
