Rubber Eggs (Creative Chemistry Experiments)

You will need:

q Vinegar
q Tall, wide glass jar
q Hard-boiled egg

Have you ever wanted to bounce an egg, without cracking it? Here’s how you can perform this simple trick, with the use of science. The egg is a normal egg, not a hard- boiled egg.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Take your hard-boiled egg and place it in a tall, wide glass jar.
  2. Pour vinegar over the egg so that it may be completely submerged.
  3. But keep an eye on what the vinegar is doing to the egg. You will see small bubbles forming on the surface of the egg.
  4. Leave your egg inside the vinegar solution for 3 full days without disturbing it.
  5. After 3 days drain the vinegar and gently rinse the shell under the water.

RESULT

The egg will feel rubbery and can be bounced off any surface. The vinegar reacts with the calcium in the egg shell, causing the calcium to dissolve. This makes the egg rubbery to touch and easy to bounce.
