The Jumble Sale

Every year a jumble sale was held by the Vicar’s wife. She went around collecting old things from people– tables, chairs, decorative pieces, clothes, dishes, shoes, etc. Everything was sold and the money was used for the orphanage. This year, it would be held on Moleworth Farm. Farmer Moleworth was a grumpy man but his wife was a plump, cheerful lady and everyone liked her. The jumble sale was always a great success. Mrs Moleworth made gallons of lemonade and there were mountains of sandwiches and cake slices for everyone. Mr Moleworth wandered around grumbling, till he saw that a little black puppy had strayed into a stall and curled up inside a shoe. “I’ll buy that puppy,” he said. Mrs Hailey looked around, puzzled. “What puppy?” she asked. Then she saw the black puppy. “He’s a stray, Mr Moleworth!” “I’ll pay for him all the same,” announced Mr Moleworth. The puppy was called Jumble!
